Boy's trip to Stoney Bay

Boy's trip to Stony Bay 11-15/7
Well one of the guys I work with was planning another assault on the Bay so as he had booked the hut I didn't take too much convincing to pop in a short notice -C Ya - gone fishing at work and gears loaded .Bit foggy crossing the border but a good forecast and warm digs promised a good few days R n R :y:
Most of the crew had gone on ahead early with the 4.1 Frewza pontoon and 2 were Scuba diving for crays while my spearo mate and I were to harpoon some fish.
So wednesday afternoon see's a 4 man team head on up to Sugar Loaf area and us Spearos dropped first then others on off for a tank dive.
Brilliant vis was the first impression and how much I miss the diving over here , so soon settle into spearing 6 big butterfish to get the eye in but no crays seen and Snapper snooping can wait.
The bottle boys found crays had been mostly small Bucks and all the big Females well in Berry so not much chop , good thing the Freediver 1.2 did the biz :y:

Next day conditions had improved even more and as boat was struggling to get on the plane with 4 & all the gear I kindly offered to go out on the Kayak and get some Snapper as they were keen to get a feed so off we went and a great day was had by all-

Getting a feel for things by now so 1/2 an hour after one of the boys left to go home I was on the drift around a headland in idyllic conditions and all Hell breaks loose
Yup the back Rod holder has done the biz and on the new Terez rig too , and rapid sorting of rods and turning to Battle stations as the beast is making like a Train and fair hauling ass straight towards some nearby crayfish buoys and lines
Well quick chucking of a well locked in railing turn with the desired effect off slewing the Yak sideways and getting some angle and hopefully steerage soon had it detouring away from aforesaid complications but this thing was not happy and sure as hell meant to let me know as a good slog fest underway in very deep water.
The new Terez was being put to the test and it soon had its superior power controlling things which bought this up after a well fought battle-

Caught another that was a good size but all the elation of the big boy soon had me paddling back to show the boys on the dive boat, photo's then in to have a cuppa and put it on ice.As one of the Tow vehicles had brake problems on the way in they left the next day when and overnighter mate came and hooked the boat up, so as I was in no hurry and the place was booked for another night I stayed on alone , sent a whole heap of fish back with them and went out and got some for me.
This day saw me venture right up around to Fletchers side and got a few big Kermadec Kahawai as well as 1 Kingy just under that all went back along with a fair few Snapper.
